Title: POTS, PRINTS, GLYPHS, PAINTS
Location: The Edwardsville Arts Center – EHS Gallery
Description: POTS, PRINTS, GLYPHS, PAINTS: Bostwick, Mason, Ringering, Yates is curated by Dennis DeToye, Exhibitions Committee chair at the Edwardsville Arts Center, and opens with a public reception on Friday, July 22 from 7pm-9pm.
Susan Bostwick is a ceramic artist whose inspiration for her functional and sculptural artwork stems from an interest in the universe that lies beneath our feet. Her joyful and fanciful clay pieces have been exhibited nationally and attract the attention of all who see them. Susan is the driving force behind the ArtEAST exhibitions.
Mike Mason is the retired Curator of Collections at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, and much of his artistic inspiration is derived from this collection. Often using the design of Louis Sullivan in his work, his prints demonstrate an amazing and creative use of the computer printer.
Dennis Ringering has always been interested in the symbols, images, and objects that man makes. His current work evolved from his research into humanities’ oldest evidence of artistic expression: Native American petroglyphs and pictographs. Dennis’ drawings are created using additive and subtractive methods, a very physical process that unites him with humanities’ first artists.
David Yates is a painter of birds. In contrast to the familiar work of James John Audubon, David’s imaginative and brightly colored bird paintings tell stories from his own life and often incorporate historical art imagery and great humor.
