Opening Reception: March 7th, 6-8pm
Exhibition Dates: March 7th to April 11th, 2014

EAC welcomes a wonderful display of artifacts from the country of Africa, places like the Congo, the Cameroons and Kaunda will be represented in the exhibit, aptly titled the “Art of Africa”  on display Mar. 7 through Apr 11.

The exhibit features beautifully-crafted Art and artifacts from the African continent on loan from the University Museum at SIUE. This is the 4 year EAC has partnered with the University Museum to showcase items from its collection. This collaboration has become an annual exhibit for EAC and SIUE and a wonderful addition to the Edwardsville Community.

An opening reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 7 to officially begin the exhibit.

Curator Eric Barnett said the success of “Art of Africa” prompted organizers to come up with an idea for another exhibit with the EAC, this year the show comes from the museum’s extensive collection of African artifacts, surely going to be another stellar exhibit!

The EAC exhibit also gives the museum an opportunity for students to interact with the “Art of Africa” exhibit, that many may not be able to see otherwise. These annual exhibits from SIUE have been a huge success and continue to helped forge a stronger relationship between the university and younger students in the community.

EAC’s goal is to continue to find ways to integrate these exhibits with what teachers are doing in in the classrooms.

The “Art of Africa” exhibit will contain approximately 100 pieces on display with most of them made of wood indigenous to the areas they are from in Africa, textiles and other utilitarian objects

Visitors to this exhibit will have the opportunity to view a wide range of rare and beautiful ancient artifacts from the university’s collection that they might not otherwise have come across.

Additionally, art work from Liberty Middle School students will be featured in the EAC’s Student Gallery.
