Southwest Conference Art Competition 2022

EXHIBITION DATES: December 9th - January 6th

OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, December 9th, 6-8pm

ABOUT: This fun and friendly art competition is open to students at Alton, Belleville East, Belleville West, Collinsville, Edwardsville, East St. Louis, Granite City and O'Fallon High Schools. Each school may submit 5 works of art. All submitted works will be displayed.  The show will be displayed in the DeToye Student Gallery concurrently with our annual Holiday Show in the Main Gallery.  This exhibit was designed to highlight the outstanding work our visual arts students are doing throughout the Southwest Conference region, and also provides an opportunity for students to gain valuable experience exhibiting in a real art gallery. 

ELIGIBILITY AND DETAILS:  Any media is acceptable for entry except web-based or performance art.  Artwork showing nudity, violence, or drug use will not be accepted.  Works on paper should be framed behind glass, and any other wall art must be ready to hang.  Students will receive 100% of the purchase price of any artwork sold to be paid within 30 days of purchase.

INVENTORY:  Print out TWO copies of the inventory tag sheet.  Please have students fill out two identical tags for each piece; attach one to the back or bottom of art, and keep the other separate so we can make labels for each artwork and match to the corresponding label on the artwork.   

AWARDS AND JUDGING:  The show will be judged blindly by an unbiased juror and awards will be given for 1st - 4th place and 2 Honorable Mentions.  Awards will be:

1st place: $100

2nd place: $75

3rd place: $50

4th place: $25

Two honorable mentions: Special gifts

Points will be given for each piece, and all points will be totaled and the winning school will be declared Southwest Conference Art Champion 2022.  We encourage you to invite students and their families to the opening reception on Friday, December 9th from 6-8pm.  At around 7pm awards will be announced.

Drop-off dates:   Wed–Fri, Nov 30th - Dec 2nd,  from 9am-3pm

                             Saturday, December 3rd, from 11am -3pm

Pick-up dates:   Saturday, January 7th from 11am-3pm

                            Wed-Fri, January 11th-13th, from 9am-3pm

                            Saturday, January 14th, from 11am-3pm
